Brian Neville - Owner and operator
Brian is one of the most experienced Outdoor Instructors in New Zealand, with more than 35 years in the outdoor industry.
Born in the tropical country of Tanzania, on the coast at Dar-es-Salaam, he has water sports in his blood. While still in his teens he climbed the Kibo peak in the snows of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa .
While Training to be a Physical Education Teacher in the United Kingdom , he became an instructor of kayaking. He also gained valuable experience leading students on hikes and rock climbing, abseiling and sailing.
In his early twenties he began a steady acquisition of skills and experience in a wide range of outdoor activities in Britain and then in New Zealand, culminating in his present holding of National warrants in bush craft, abseiling, alpine and sea kayaking.
After finishing 11 years as Director of St Paul's Collegiate Tihoi Venture School between 1981 and 1992 he decided to use his outdoor skills to enable a broader audience to enjoy the beauty of nature and started Wilderness Escapes in the summer of 1995, in the stunning Lake Taupo area. He offers kayaking to the Lake Taupo Rock Carvings and other exciting kayaking trips.
One of his main beliefs is;
"That nature is the best teacher and the natural wilderness is the best classroom."
